Chef
Instructors at Baltimore International College
Excerpt from The Baltimore Sun Paper, May 24, 2006 |
| |
Chef
Shirley Coleman, a chef instructor at the Baltimore International
College, says the Otterbein cookies have retained a homemade
look and taste.
" They look like they were made with love," she
says. " It wasn't thrown together" Coleman says
she can taste butter as the primary fat in the cookies, instead
of shortening. "I could tell someone took a little bit
of extra time making them."
|
|
Chef
Faith Kling, another chef instructor at the college, says
the key to the thin Otterbein cookie is to bake it just the
right amount of time - long enough to let the moisture evaporate
and make the cookies crisp without burning them. |

I used to pick up a whole carton of chocolate chip cookies every Christmas, and they were the most welcome gifts I ever gave. After we left Woodlawn, it was difficult for us to order them, so I forgot how magically good they were. UNTIL TODAY. I went to our Jiffy Mart on Rt 30 in Hampstead, and there were my most favorite cookies in the world. I saw you had moved locations, and then saw the web site. This must be my lucky day!
THANK YOU for keeping the cookies just the way they are. All pure natural ingredients, just as I would make in my own kitchen. I am thrilled to know I can find them close to home. Your cookies are the very best, bar none!

Thanks for the cookies. They were great! I have been trying to watch what I eat, but I was unable to resist the cookies. I've only had these cookies a few times before and had forgotten how much like home-made they are. I shared them with all the guys in my company and they did not last very long. Thery were all asking who baked the cookies. A lot of the soldiers in the company are not from the Baltimore area and are not familiar with Otterbein's Bakery. I don't think some of them believed that they were not home-made.
Thanks again from all of us in Alpha Company, 450th Civil Affairs Battalion (Airborne) for the great cookies. Things like these make us feel a little closer to home.

I am TOTALLY obsessed with your cookies!!!
Since picking up my first mini-bag at the Royal Farms store on my way to work, I now find I MUST pick up a package every single day. If there is the rare day that I don't stop there for coffee and my cookies, I miss them sooooooooo much, especially in the afternoon when my students have left for the day and I'm in my classroom catching up on paperwork. That is when they soothe me most often!
Thank you so much for making such a quality product at a price I can afford. You help make my day a lot "sweeter." Keep up the great work. |

While
visiting my brother in Washington, DC, I picked up a bag of
your sugar cookies at his local grocery store. I was just
looking for a nice snack, and I honestly didn't expect anything
out of the ordinary. I'd never tried your cookies and had
never heard of them, as I live in Miami, Fl. WOW, was I surprised
when I bit into such a light, crisp, buttery cookie! I'm not
usually a big fan of cookies, or of sweets at all, but your
cookies just blew me away. They aren't too sweet, with a great
crunch and wonderful taste. Well, now I'm back home in Miami
and I just ordered six bags of sugar cookies from your web
site! Thanks so much for making such a quality product.

I
rarely and I mean rarely, ever write to companies with comments.
But, after reading the comments on your website, I felt compelled
to relate my story. Years ago, my parents lived in Winston-Salem,
NC, where there is a Moravian village. It is a historical
village and when I would visit, it was always o the schedule
to visit their bakery that cooks in beehive, wood fired ovens.
One of the items that they make is a sugar cookie that is
so thin, light, and delicious that I thought I would never
experience one as good. They would sell them by the paper
bag-full. I would always take a couple of bags on the road.
Otterbeins sugar cookies are at least as good, if not
better. My Dad is gone now, so it was a real trip down memory
lane to find these cookies. Thanks for taking me back to a
wonderful memory.

I
bought a small bag of your cookies from the vending machine
at work, and I fell in love with them. They are incredibly
delicious. Addictive, even. I just ordered some from the Web
site, but I was wondering if you could tell me if there are
any grocery outlets in the Harrisburg, Pa., area that carry
them.

you!

Hi:
I wanted
to write and tell you about my first time experience with
your company's delicious cookies.
My family and I stayed in Ocean City, MD recently for one
night. We stopped by the Royal Farms store a few blocks
from our hotel to pick up a few items for dinner. I stopped
by the Otterbein's cookie display and looked through the
selection deciding which kind to pick out or if I should
forgo my frugal ways and buy them. As I was perusing a lady
sitting nearby stocking the shelf told me "You don't
want to buy them." Curious, I asked "Why?"
She smiled and went on to tell me "They are so good,
they are addicting. You won't eat another brand of cookie.
I love them."
I thought to myself "A cookie can be that good?"
I went for the challenge of curiosity and my craving for
a nice chocolate chip cookie to treat myself and the kids.
We went to the beach for an hour after the store trip, came
back and I opened the bag tasting the first cookie. "Wow!"
I thought to myself after the first bite. That lady was
right! I gave one to my son and offered one to the rest
of the family exclaiming how good these cookies are. That
bag was gone in less than twenty minutes! Needless to say
I just had to go back to the store and get another bag.
I wish I could've stocked up on those cookies to take back
to Pennsylvania with me, but I didn't get a chance to. Meanwhile,
I still have one cookie left and will be savoring and remembering
that marvelous home made taste until I can order some and
surprise the kids with them. I hope no one catches me eating
the last cookie.
Thanks
for the tasteful addiction Otterbein!

Dear
Otterbein's,
I am a faithful lover of your cookies. I finally got the time
to send over my appreciation. Every since one of my co workers
let me try his cookies I've been hooked. I have introduced
many others to the Otterbein's goodness and I will continue
to do so. I can't wait until my newborn daughter has teeth
so she can savor the best cookie in the world. Keep up the
good work and don't change a thing |

My brother
moved to the Glenville NY area many years ago, but continued
to long for your unique sugar cookies. As a special treat
to him and his kids (who also love the cookies ), I would
take a case to him whenever I went to visit, having picked
them up from your bakery in Baltimore. It was a great family
occasion when all three of his kids would come over to his
house and the bags of cookies would be distributed.
It remains that great an occasion today. This is the first
time that I had them mailed - because now I usually fly
up there. So, you can see that it is a real relief to find,
through your graciousness, that I can continue to do that!
God bless you in your continued service with those great
cookies. I hope this story helps to bring home the special
importance of them to some of your customers for half a
century.

I experienced Otterbein's lemon sugar cookies today for the
first time at work. I couldn't believe how delicious they
were! From the first bite, I was immediately transported back
in time to my childhood and the wonderful home made cookies
my mother would bake. Later on in the day I was in Giant and
saw that red and white bag while passing the bakery. I snatched
up a bag of lemon sugar cookies! After reading the comments
on the web site, I feel like running back to the Giant and
getting a bag of chocolate chip! I was very pleased to see
that Otterbein's is a local company. Who'd have known such
delicacies are available right in our back yard?! Keep up
the good work! |

I have
no idea why I had purchased the sugar cookies in the red and
white package about a year back, but oh my goodness was I
glad I did. They were simply the best sugar cookies I have
ever tasted in my life. A few weeks after that I decided for
the chocolate chip cookies. I must admit I was thinking to
myself "Thin and crisp chocolate chip cookies can in
no way compare to thick moist chocolate chip cookies of yore".
Boy, was I mistaken. Both the sugar and the chocolate chip
cookies are simply the best cookies I have ever (and probably
will ever) have. I must admit I have been afraid to try the
Lemon Sugar, Ginger and Oatmeal Raisin cookies though. This
does not have to with the fact of fearing they may be bad,
but the other two kinds are so good, if I buy cookies, I simply
just can not pass either the sugar or the chocolate chip up.
With
this praise comes a suggestion and a complaint.
The suggestion: Are you ever going to make peanut butter
cookies?
The complaint: Package free dumbbells/running shoes/jump
ropes/ect. with the cookies to help me work off all the
delicious cookie calories I have taken in from your exquisite,
mouth watering cookies.

I moved
to South Baltimore 5 years ago and discovered these little
gems at the Metro on Fort Avenue (by-the-way, not on the
list for locations to purchase your products. I also found
them in the gift store at the St. Agnes Hospital. Much to
my delight of the friend I was visiting there). I am simply
your biggest fan! You make your cookies exactly the way
I like them, thin and crispy! A thick cake-like cookie shall
NEVER pass these lips. They don't come any better than yours.
Thanks
for making them.

I just
visited your website. Our family loves your cookies and
I have so many fond memories of visiting your bakery when
I was in high school and stayed at my girlfriend's house
in Northwood. Your chocolate chip cookies are the best and
I don't have to bake them. Keep up the good work. I wish
you were still in Northeast Baltimore.

Thank
you very much! I can't wait for the chocolate chip cookies
to arrive!
I was
recently in my hometown of Baltimore, MD. While having lunch
at Edmart Deli I discovered your cookies on the shelf. I
could tell just by LOOKING AT THEM that these were special
cookies. I immediately bought a bag of the chocolate chip.
Well... let me say this... I was ASTOUNDED by these cookies!
These could perhaps be the best store-bought cookies I have
ever experienced.
I feel
you have totally captured what is the ultimata homemade
chocolate chip cookie in a bag! Thin and crispy, buttery
and perfectly salted. It is as if they were actually made
at home, fresh from the oven.
I look
forward to treating my friends to your cookies and they,
I am certain, will be mailing in for more.

Thanks
for the best sugar cookies anywhere!! My father would always
be one of those people standing in line waiting for these.
He worked at the Parkville post office and would go down
after work to get them. When he came home he hid them and
would not let us touch them until Christmas. We used to
think that he got them from some woman on his postal route
because they always tasted homemade. They were always a
treat!! Now that I am older it's nice to see I can purchase
them at my local supermarket. Thanks again for an awesome
cookie and keep baking!!!

I just came back from my visit to Baltimore (my hometown)
where I JUST discovered your incredibly delicious sugar
and chocolate chip cookies!! Amazing!! I mean AMAZING!!

That was then... and NOW I have found your incredible cookies...
